Working with Mariska was an amazing experience. All the love and effort that I put into my writing was met with the same care and dedication when she worked on my interior layout and endpapers. Her expertise during the process is a breath of fresh air–providing tailored options to get the creativity flowing, clearly communicating to ensure timelines were met, and welcoming feedback to ensure a harmony between text and design to make a truly one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

Working with Mariska on the interior design of my two books was an absolute joy! From the very beginning, she brought not only remarkable talent and experience, but also a deep sense of care and attentiveness that made me feel heard–like these books were as much a part of her as they were of me. She listened patiently to all of my concerns and doubts and made my vision a reality. Her ability to translate my ideas into graphics and to make the perfect layout is extraordinary. It was very easy to work with her, and she is, without a doubt, one of the most talented people I have ever met. It was a pleasure collaborating with her through this journey. I cannot recommend her more!

When I first saw Mariska’s beautiful creations for other authors, I made a wish upon a star to one day be able to have my books’ interior formatted and illustrated by her. Now that my wish has come true, I cannot be happier! Not only do the results exceed my expectations, but the whole process was so orderly and worry-free. Me and my book felt in safe hands at all times: from the instructions on what to expect at the start of the process, through the regular updates on how things were progressing, to the delivery of the final files with all my requests being incorporated. Mariska communicated to me clearly everything she did at every stage and also made invaluable suggestions for improvements. She explained the things that someone new to book design like me needed to learn. She was my second set of eyes, finding mistakes in my manuscript I hadn’t noticed. I’m so grateful for her art, and can’t wait to work with her again!

Mariska was an absolutely wonderful artist and person to work with, from start to finish! As a first-time author, I found that her expertise, caring, attention to detail, and overall kindness made the process less scary than I initially thought it to be. She was able to create illustrations that captured the Gothic atmosphere of the novel perfectly, and I am beyond thrilled to have had a chance to work with her — and hope to work with her again on future projects. I cannot recommend this gem of a human being enough!

Mariska is phenomenal to work with and is such a professional to the craft. She not only listened and encouraged my ideas and concepts when I was undergoing a huge interior formatting revision, but brought her own special touch to my book that absolutely elevated it. She kept me updated throughout the process, created her own designs, and finished both print and ebook copies before schedule. If you aren’t working with her yet, you need to! I’m excited to have her work on my next book and other future projects!

Being an indie author for my debut book has got to be, without a doubt, one of the hardest tasks I’ve ever tried to accomplish. Every step of the way has revealed a new challenge for me to overcome. It has been entirely worth it, of course, but obviously very, very stressful. That is until I got to the interior formatting stage of the book. This should have been the MOST difficult part (I tried to do a little interior formatting myself for the ARC of my debut book which was an absolute hellscape nightmare of a time), but working with Mariska made this part of indie authoring a breeze. And God knows, I didn’t make it a simple job for her! I came with a vague idea of what I wanted my interior to look like and she quickly hit me back with the most gorgeous interior design. I just wrote a 400+ page book, but I am beyond words in the praise I’d sing for Mariska. She made sure every last detail was perfect. Then when it came time for me to turn it into my printing press (both KDP and a new press neither of us were familiar with) she went above and beyond to help me meet every single thing those presses needed. I always felt bad reaching out to her for ANOTHER change to the pdf but no matter how often I sent her an email asking for some new detail or fix she was always chipper and happy to aid me in my journey which made the process even easier for a people pleaser like me who feels distressed whenever my brain thinks I’m “bothering” somebody with something.

My goal as an indie author long term is to one day be able to help other indie authors publish their dream book, so as I go through this process I have been keeping track of the things I learn and the people I work with. Mariska has become my go-to person for interior formatting. She will never be rid of me, haha! Not only do I plan to hire her again for the sequels to my debut book, but moving forward she will be the designer I recommend to any indie author struggling to bring their dream book to life.

Mariska has been an absolute dream to work with. For both the cover and the interior formatting and design, she gave me three different options that were all so incredible that it was hard to choose only one! In the end, she was even able to take a bit of each and deliver the perfect mix of all. Her attention to detail and keen eye even caught a few missed things in the overall manuscript.

She’s also been an amazing help in the whole publishing process, answering questions about the different platforms I chose to put my book on.

I can’t wait to work with her on my next projects, as I have an unfaltering trust in her work and I know she’ll make all my future books shine.

If you still have doubts, I can assure you she’s worth every penny!

I found Mariska on instagram and I immediately knew that I wanted her to do my interior design and formatting. She sent me three amazing mock ups based on my description and then allowed me to pick and chose from all three. The results are amazing but most importantly, she is such a joy to work with. She is fast to respond, crazy talented, supportive and just incredibly helpful in situations she really didn’t have to be. I will be using her for the next books in this series and you are seriously missing out if you aren’t too!

Working with Mariska was an absolutely lovely experience. She was so patient, open to hearing all my ideas, and always quick to respond when I requested changes. The illustrations she created were exactly what I was looking for and I received the drafts quickly, and many different versions to choose from too! I had the pleasure of working with Mariska on the interior illustrations of my debut book, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the result. She is not only an exceptionally talented artist but also incredibly kind and easy to work with. Her professionalism shone through every step of the process, and her custom art perfectly captured the essence of my dark fantasy novel. Mariska brought the atmosphere to life in a way that exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend Rubre Art to anyone seeking beautifully haunting and captivating illustrations.

Mariska Maas of Rubre Art did the interior formatting for the e-book and print versions of A Planet of Wrath and Tears, the fourth book in a series. Her design was clean and distinctive while maintaining consistency with the earlier books. Her work was quick, and precise, and she was prompt in addressing comments as the work proceeded. The final product was beautiful, both for print and in e-book form across a wide range of devices.

Colin Alexander author of the Leif The Lucky series

Mariska is incredible! I had fumbled around with the lackluster interior design options Fiverr had to offer and just happened to (thankfully) run across her on TikTok. After seeing how passionate she is about the individuality and illustration of interior design, I wanted to reach out. I had a tight deadline since my edits took so long, but she worked with me to make it happen. In four days, she helped me bring to life the idea I have had in my head for the past two years! She is so attentive, knowledgeable, and talented! I hope to use her on all my future projects!

Kyrstie Nickles, author of Fire on Fire.

I’ve worked with the amazing and incredibly talented Mariska at Rubre Art who has produced this amazing piece and magnificently captured our favourite pairing.

Isn’t it beautiful? I love it so much!

Sarah Cook, author of Diary of Murders

So, this is it! The cover was designed by Mariska Maas from Rubre Art, and it went very smoothly. I was allowed by the publisher to contact her myself, after which Mariska asked me to tell her more about my characters. Based on that information she made 3 sketches for the front cover of my book, of which this one both me and my publisher loved. The title pops from the page and the characters are also very recognisable. The romance has been subtly added, yet they aren’t squished together like normally is done with romantic covers. That wouldn’t have been practical considering the nature of the story.

I am very pleased with the cover, and I hope you guys are as well!

For the fifth edition of my novel Geestverwanten, I wanted to tweak the story here and there and have a new interior made. Unfortunately, I only had a PDF of the interior that I could not convert properly to Word myself without losing a great deal of the story. Through someone else I came into contact with Mariska, who made a Word version of the PDF in no time and assisted me in the rewriting process. Afterwards, she made an incredibly beautiful interior for my novel, and did so with great patience and personal attention. Heartwarming!

Mariska works fast, is alert, responds quickly to questions and understands her profession like no other. It really is a joy to work with her and I can recommend her to everyone.

– Hilda Spruit, author of Geestverwanten and owner of Uitgeverij Oleander

Thank you for the beautiful cover, as well as the just as pretty interior design!

– Emma Zegers, author of The Museum of Lost and Found & Alles van Jou

I’m very proud and happy about the fact that Mariska made the illustrations for my first children’s book: ‘Het geheim van het oude strandhuis’.

She took great care of both the smaller and larger illustrations. They fit perfectly with the story, and truly make the tale come to life.

The collaboration was speedy, pleasant, and great. It was also very nice how I could make my wishes known, and how she would turn them into something absolutely stunning

Mariska works very quick, and she is very clear about the working process in itself. And most important of all. She works enthusiastically on every piece.

I can only wish that she would illustrate more of my books!

– Isolde Boers author of Het Geheim van het Oude Strandhuis & De Legende van de Waterdraak

I wanted to thank you for your meticulous efforts in designing my book cover and the interior. I am one of those who want everything to match my imagination, and Mariska was able to fulfill them with ease. In this process, I realized, she is very adaptive in her craft of designing.

I know, I can be pretty demanding for minor nuances sometimes yet she worked with me patiently the whole time. She was easy to work with, had great ideas, and was a good listener. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a graphic designer. Thanks.

I came to Mariska with a very personal project and she handled it with such care. There were a number of unique aspects that she handled wonderfully, and a number of technical issues and changes that she took with utmost patience. She took the time to advise me on industry standards and made knowledgeable recommendations. The final formatting is absolutely gorgeous, and I could not recommend working with her enough. If you want someone that truly cares about your book, that knows all the technical aspects, and is an amazing artist, you’ve got it in Mariska.

Mariska has been managing our social media outlets since she started interning with us and has been offered a part-time position with the company in the meantime. By now she has worked on countless interior files for our books and has designed and illustrated several children’s books and YA titles, as well as produced character art for our preorder shop. I can warmly recommend Mariska as an intern and as a colleague!
